La Tomatina is a festival which people throw a tomato at each other. It’s held Bunol in Spain. This festival started from 1945. There are various kinds of tomatina’s origin.
The end of August in 1945, a man began a fight with other man in the town festival parade. And the man threw a nearby vegetable store’s tomato. Other man threw back tomato. A police officer stopped them, but they fought and threw tomato again at same place next year. Another story, a man were walking Bunol street while perform a musical instrument. But one of a man who listened to his music threw a nearby vegetable store’s tomato because his music is very bad. These are La Tomatina’s beginning.
Throwing tomato duel was carried out every year from this happening. And this event became town festival. But the festival was banned by police in 1951 because it became excessive and dangerous. A lot of people hoped the festival revival. At last La Tomatina was revived by Bunol City. And now, this festival is loved by many people.
